My latest work

Writer's picture: Pete HarringtonPete Harrington

I wanted my latest work to convey scale whilst showing unrivalled detail. I drive over the river Severn regularly in my town and I always admire the view. What better way to pay homage to such a pretty town than the bridge and the view it provides!

The view I am painting from is in low town, looking across the river at the many houses and businesses that adorn the cliff edge of high town:

(the location of the image viewpoint)

Tourists wanting to avoid the main town traffic, park in low town and walk across the bridge to the cliff railway, which hoists them up right into the heart of high town where the market is.

It all allows for a unique experience of our lovely town.

So I wanted to create a landscape painting that would showcase not only the beautiful town, but also the range and diversity of my personal art skills. The painting, when complete, will have three different points of creativity attached to it.

  1. My fine detail work in all the various buildings

  2. My choice of composition and colour

  3. The broader, less controlled aspect of the water adding movement into the piece.

I now at the stage where I'm almost done with the detail work, which has so far taken around 300 hours to complete.

Here are some closer shots of my efforts:

Prints of this will be available very soon in various sizes and media, I really hope you will all want one!
